Year Of

I spent time at Starbucks yesterday morning addressing invitations to a few old friends and colleagues. Thanks to the inspiring stories of Heather, Cheryl, and Karlie, I have decided to formally invite people to name their 2012.  Below is a copy of the front and back of the postcard (though excuse the spacing issues I seem to be having).

You're old hat at all of this, so I probably won't be sending you an invitation. You should already know by now that you are welcome to join the fun. And, if you have a friend, neighbor, or colleague who you think might also be interested, then by all means spread the word.

Ultimately my goal is to gather a group of people who are excited to embark on - and share - their experience pursuing their "Year Of". People shouldn't shy away from participating for fear that their "year of" might never be realized. It is the journey I am interested in and not so much the destination.

Put on your thinking caps and begin working through what you will name your 2102. Then pass it along to anyone else who you think shines and who will appreciate the intent.

Shining off until...

After some serious ups and downs, what LOOKED like a great new job (at a company that went under three months after I started), the Year of the New Job is a success!!!! On December 13, I started a new job at Valparaiso University Law School. It meets almost all my original requirements - in my field, closer to home, in a place where we can afford a house, good schools for the little guy. The only thing it doesn't meet is the better weather requirement. But hey, you can't have everything, and that was the least important. The overall count - over 300 resumes sent out, 20+ phone interviews, 2 on campus interviews, and ONE NEW JOB!!! I only needed one.

Now... for 2012? I am not sure.

Wow, Julie. What an adventure. I hope you will join in for 2012 and let me know what you are going to name your year.

The amount of work you put into your Year of the New Job is pretty impressive, so there is no surprise that something eventually came your way.

    Congratulations.

P.S. Send me an email with your new address, cbeeny@ckbgroup.com

How?!!? How did I miss this post yesterday?

No matter! I'm here. I started the essay but it's a long way until finished!

2011 has been so successful that I just don't know what I want for 2012. So many options! When are you looking for us to decide? Are you going to give a recap of how to decide?

Oh my gosh! I still have a little over 10 days left in the Year of Love! I have to savor everyone of them.

I've been reading and not commenting because I had no idea what my year would be named. Heck, I can't even remember what last year was - I think the year of me. Either way, that's almost behind us. I woke up with my year in mind- Refocus.

Sure, I could label it the year of school and list all the things I need to get done this year: finishing my MPH(May), sitting for my CPH exam (February), finishing my app to the PhD program (NOW). I could list all the stuff that my house needs or that my kids need that goes beyond the basics. But I think to say a refocus will cover all of that.

I do need rules, even if I don't have plans. I have one rule so far: Brush my teeth before turning on any electronics. Don't laugh. (I already did it!)
