Buttercup

Buttercups are yellow.

Normally I wouldn't spend too much time thinking about Buttercups, but the other day I was shopping at an artist's village in Key Largo and I saw a funny placard hanging on the wall.  It was painted on an old piece of driftwood and had a simple piece of wire hanging from the top.

It said: "Suck it up, Buttercup!"

I can't tell you how many times in the past 72 hours I have found myself repeating that little mantra in my head - and out loud for that matter.

Lost your quarter after my telling you 1,000 times to keep it in your pocket?

"Suck it up, buttercup."

Decided you wanted cheese on your sandwich after I asked five times and finally made the decision to make it without cheese?

"Suck it up, buttercup."

Turned your paper in late, but still think you should get full credit because you didn't see the deadline posted on the syllabus and on the website?

"Suck it up, buttercup"

Just received an email from my husband's assistant listing dates for six business trips that my husband has planned between now and August 22?

"Suck it up, buttercup."

How about you, buttercup? What do you need to suck up?

Shining off until tomorrow...

Tired of your volunteer work being questioned when you are making more effort than the people you are doing the work for?

    Suck it up, Buttercup!

PS) Buttercup always reminds me of The Princess Bride. Best. Movie. Ever. :-)

Ha! I just read that same statement on a facebook comment last week.

I can't think of a Suck it up, Buttercup story for myself.

I guess I could say it to some other people though... :)

I hit enter twice really fast and now you have two of the same comments. Sweet.

I was going to add... I love the Princess Bride movie, too. I love when he says, "As you wish!"

This was our motto when I marched drum corps...hence the reason why anytime the song "Buttercup" comes on the radio I have to call my good friend Jessie. We used it just the same way when someone was complaining about the heat, hard work, sun, blisters, whatever..."Suck it up Buttercup"...we weren't at all nice about it =).

For me...irritated at the amount of work at home and the office..."Suck it up Buttercup!"
