Send Me Some Love & Win!

Happy Friday, House of Shine! Cheryl Here.

No, I'm not giving away dates. Not yet anyway.

As veteran readers know, in January we named our year and 2011 is my Year of Love. Next week marks our half way mark and while I've met some very nice men in the past six months, June felt way off. Off like finding myself standing in the ice cream aisle of Tom Thumb on a Saturday night asking my-calorie-counting-self, "Why are you standing here? You're not hungry and you have ice cream at home. Crabby patties, Cheryl! You are totally replacing love with ice cream! Get the heck out of here, stat!"

That very moment is why I decided to ask you for your participation in a little contest of sending me some love.

There are many symbols that express love but the heart, I think, is the universal symbol that all languages know. If I draw a heart around ice cream you understand that I am expressing my for love ice cream no matter if you speak German, Spanish or Italian, right?

So, I would really like for you to dust off your creative brains and sketch, draw, paint, color, photograph, sew, collage, or mosaic me a heart. A solid heart, a heart made of drawn flowers, of words, or a yellow heart that shines. Whatever your creative mind dreams up. And, if you want to send out a little request to the universe that our lives be filled with love- even better. I will not limit you on your creativity other than size.

Size Requirements:The shortest side of your creative piece should be a minimum of 4 inches and the longest side of your piece should be a maximum of 12 inches. As small as 4" x 4" to as large as 12" x 12" and everything in between. Got it? Make sense?

When should you have your creative piece of love to me? My birthday is August 12th therefore you should have your artwork postmarked no later than August 12, 2011. It would be the best birthday present ever if you would send yours and spread the word asking others to participate.

Everyone is eligible- old, young, smart, funny, short and tall, but only one entry per person.

Be sure to print your name and address on the back of your piece.

Mail your love to:

Cheryl O'Pry, 2999 Turtle Creek Blvd., Dallas, Texas 75219

Now, it would be great if you just did this out of the kindness of your heart or your desire to shine and I'm sure some of you would participate without enticement but I want a lot of hearts sent my way so I'm going to give away some cash prizes to entice you.

It's bribery. I'm not above it in this case. You should be rewarded because as part of the contest, I am not returning your artwork to you. Just wanted you to know that.

First place winner will receive $100. Second place will receive $50. And, third place will receive $25. Winners will be chosen by a panel of judges and announced on September 2, 2011.

Join me in the comment section and let me know if you'll participate and if you shared my request via Facebook or Twitter. And- we've made it half way through our year. How is your "Year Of" going?

Signing off until Monday when we read about another wonderful Yellow Envelope Project nominee.

It may surprise you but I'll definitely participate and probably have my kiddos do something for you as well. What will we do?!? I have no idea but all summer long to figure it out.

I cannot help myself so of COURSE I will be sending you some love. Whatever I send (bc right now I have NO IDEAS) you can rest assured that it will be filled with creative and hopeful intentions. Rest assured that love will find you when/where you least expect it... right about the time you quit looking, LOL. As for me, this is my 'Year of Relaxation'. I did a LOT in the last 5 years (2005-2010) and I was just plain tired of being a human DOING... now I am a human BEING,.. on the beach. :-)

I took a sneak peek at this post a couple of days ago and I must say, I am SO excited for this project. I've been taking an art class one Thursday a month and it has me totally inspired to do something fabulous.

In the words of Randy Jackson... I'm in it to win it!!!!

I have also worked up a healthy list of people to share this post with. Let's hope the turnout is great.

Oh and My Year of...the Triathlon
Well I have every intention of doing a sprint triathlon on October 2nd in Mansfield Texas (come out and cheer me on!).

I feel pretty good about the running, swimming is getting there but I need to find a way to get more pool time and I haven't even begun to train for the bike as I don't have a road worthy bike to train with. Honestly I'm not sure what I'm going to do about that piece of the puzzle as road bikes are just too darn expensive and I can't afford one. Oh well, I'll focus on the positive, keep training what I can and maybe that last piece of the puzzle will fall into place just as it will with you and your Year of...

Anyone have a road bike they wouldn't mind lending out?

I found out about this through your Aunt Cynthia, a longtime friend. I've seen the art you did for her with lips and fish. I read the kind words you wrote about her on your blog awhile back. I love hearts, and although I am really, really busy, I am pretty sure I'll be sending you something heartwise. Good luck in your endeavors.

My girls and I are in for sure. LOVE IT! I am posting late because it has been a busy few days. We have been traveling with a good friend to South Padre Island and back and my husband and I leave tomorrow morning for a trip to Tahoe with his company. Great times! But the best news I have received in the last couple of weeks came yesterday. We are having another GIRL! Woo hoo! She is healthy and everything looks great. As for my year of...a flop. But I am taking care of myself, this baby girl I am carrying and enjoying preparing my family and home for this new arrival.

Heather...I do not have a "road bike" but I have on road/off road bike that you are welcome to use, if you would like. It is just collecting dust.
