5Ray: Day Three

Today is Day 3 of the House of Shine's 5Ray.  A 5Ray requires every bit as much energy and persistence as a 5k, but instead of a running race, a 5Ray is a race to spread shine.  Think of us as a sport about souls, not soles.  Our sport requires no fancy equipment, no special attire, and people with any level of ability can feel like an elite athlete after participating just once.

A replay of yesterday's activity.

Yesterday we were presented with two more randomly selected words - "coffee shop" and "post-it note."  Our job was to somehow combine the two in order to spread shine in our corner of the world.

I made a bee-line (ooooh, could have been a good tag line for Monday's bee cookies) for Starbucks this morning and below is what I left behind.

The post-it note in the top left hand corner said, "You Shine" and the post-it note in the bottom right hand corner said....

Unsure if that was enough, I added two more sticky notes to the bulletin board by the front door.

If your wheels are turning and you are thinking to yourself, "What's so great about that idea?  I could run laps around her," then good.  Not only are you probably right, but today you get our chance.

Before tucking Jack into bed tonight, I had him randomly draw two more cards.  Below is our winning combination for Thursday.  Remember, join these two things together to somehow create shine in your corner of the world.  Then join us in the Community Forum section labeled, Today's Post and tell us about your experience.

Ready...

One more thing.  Below are some motivation tips that I found on a runner's blog.  I share them with you, because I find it interesting that these very same tips would work for anyone committed to joining our Rayvolution and helping to power the planet with shine.  But here is the difference.  Become an avid runner by following the tips and improve your own health and fitness.  Become an avid Shine Ambassador by following the tips and improve the shape of our planet!

I don't know about you, but that seems worth breaking a sweat over.

  • Remember that you will have plateaus in your progress and tough days along the way.
  • It gets easier.
  • Accept and appreciate the fact that not every single run can be a good one.
  • Be prepared to remove the words “can’t” and “never” from your vocabulary.
  • Do not compare yourself to others. Run within yourself and for yourself first.
  • Don’t expect every run to be better than the last one; some of them will hurt.
  • Don’t think too much about it or you won’t do it.
  • Even a bad run is better then no run at all.

How about it?  Take a lap with me today.  Use a "coupon" and a "mailbox" to spread some shine.  Don't think too much about it or you won't do it.  After all, even a bad attempt is better than no attempt at all.

Shining off until tomorrow...
